Why?

My 6 year old son asked me why Obi-Wan stopped fighting and let Darth Vader kill him.  I, myself, had not yet been satisfied with the myriad of possible reasons I've considered.  Then I looked at my own son, and all at once, the answer seemed much clearer to me.

"He did it to help Luke escape.  Otherwise, Luke would've stayed back and tried to rescue him.  This way, Luke could get away."

I am so thankful for his illuminating questions.
